The latest data from the Consumer Packaging Observatory by Nomisma were presented at Marca by BolognaFiere 2023.
Despite an unfavourable economic situation, especially soaring inflation, the attention that the consumer pays to sustainability shows no sign of diminishing. Even in the packaging of products purchased in supermarkets and hypermarkets.
Starting from a sample of over 1,000 purchasing managers between the ages of 18 and 65, Nomisma carried out a survey which highlights that 35% of interviewees consider sustainability and attention to the environment a determining factor in their consumption.
The packaging characteristics matter significantly; it is an increasingly important aspect for 92% of the interviewees. In the last 12 months, 65% of Italian families preferred a more sustainable product for packaging, while 19% decided to abandon another one because the packaging was not sustainable enough.
Three characteristics of sustainability most look for:
- lack of overpacking (58%),
- total recyclability (56%),
- the reduced amount of plastic (47%).
This trend in favour of the environment is seen above all in the food segment, but CPS Company, specialized in the design of packaging machinery for the home and personal care, also takes it into account.
Starting from the conception of solutions compatible with paper packaging, oriented to the maximum energy efficiency and plastic film saving. This last aspect is made possible by technologies that create packaging that adheres more closely to the product, therefore more beautiful and with less consumption of plastic material.
