In the first quarter of 2023, the market of Italian packaging technology manufacturers experienced a positive phase above all thanks to exports.
According to data from the Mecs Study Centre released by UCIMA, the packaging sector recorded an increase of +22.5% in the first quarter of 2023. This result was mainly driven by the increase in exports, which grew by 29%, while the domestic market suffered a contraction of 7.1%.
Orders in the sector saw a 13% growth in the first three months of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year. Furthermore, the months of guaranteed production were higher than in the previous quarter.
These data are consistent with the increase in exports, whose demand grew by 16.2%, while domestic demand fell by 7.9%.
THE SOLIDITY OF THE PACKAGING SECTOR
The packaging sector has demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt and resist the economic instability which has influenced the market in this period.
The months of guaranteed production reached 8.1, with an increase compared to the fourth quarter of 2022. This is a positive sign that confirms the solidity of the packaging sector and puts it in a position to face future challenges and seize possible opportunities.
Operators expect growth in both the domestic and foreign markets, especially in the food sector.
SPARE PARTS
Spare parts are in excellent health and represent 19.5% of the sector’s total turnover. Forecasts indicate growth both in the domestic and foreign markets, with 66.4% of companies expecting an increase in results in this segment.
According to the sample monitored, in the first quarter of 2023, the total turnover index recorded an increase of 22.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. This increase in foreign sales compensated for the decrease in domestic sales.
